This ever-shifting ensemble has, since 2019, probed and pondered the intertwining paths of divergent musical traditions, meeting where these become something else. Currently comprised of Charles Dubois, Elora Antolin, Sven Michel, Mayomi Moreno, Julien Ouvrard, Ellen Pelé and led by Will Guthrie, Nist-Nah Ensemble presents the spectrum of Gamelan music ~ be it as contemplative tonal meditations or as relentless, trance-inducing orchestrations ~ in conjunction with exploratory approaches to percussion inspired by sources as diverse as Roscoe Mitchell, Michael Ranta and Mike Cooper. A challenge to the senses as much as a blissful abandon to melodic possibilities far beyond our immediacy.

Having played at Sonic Treatise in 2019, it's about time that Pak Yan Lau made her return to KRAAK's moving stages as her musical horizons have mutated and expanded in the years since. A trained pianist with improvisation at the heart of her practice, Pak Yan's minimal mosaics expand in their luminous possibility through the use of a rotating array of instruments and sound implements. Her latest explorations deploy self-made ceramic wokalimbas, prepared piano, typatune and various electronic effects to subtly pry open the portals to some truly shimmering sonic expanses.
