SCKRUUK: a schiev x KRAAK x UH festival
In light of no schiev and no UH this year, we at KRAAK team up with these buddies to deliver a three-way feast to fill the hungry void! On June 6, 7 and 8 the friendly smorgasbord fest known as SCKRUUHK will take place at Recyclart in Brussels, and will feature a selection of musical acts curated by each festival as they follow their heart and gut ~ Hungarian neo-folk fused with Brazilian rhythmic romps doused in Egyptian dancefloor wizardry sprinkled with some Belgian nü indie hymns and Southern gothic reverb’d strings ~ and that’s just a taste? It’s a hutsepot of all sounds loved and relished, mulled together in a friendship stew to share at will. Grab some napkins and join the feast, there’ll be enough to go around for everyone 🥨

NL: Omdat er dit jaar geen schiev en geen UH is, werken we bij KRAAK samen met deze vrienden aan een drievoudig feest om de hongerige leegte te vullen! Op 6, 7 en 8 juni vindt het vriendelijke smörgåsbord fest plaats dat bekend staat als SCKRUUHK in Recyclart in Brussel, en zal een selectie van muzikale acts bevatten die door elk festival zijn samengesteld terwijl ze hun hart en buik volgen ~ Hongaarse neo-folk versmolten met Braziliaanse ritmische stoeipartijen overgoten met Egyptische dansvloertovenarij besprenkeld met wat Belgische nü indie hymnes en zuidelijke gothic reverb'd strijkers ~ en dat is nog maar een voorproefje? Het is een hutsepot van alle geluiden geliefd en genoten, samengebracht in een vriendschapsstoofpot om naar believen te delen. Pak wat servetten en eet mee, er is genoeg voor iedereen 🥨

OUT NOW::: Roxane Métayer ~ Chênes ~ KRAAK is proud to release French multidisciplinary artist Roxane Métayer’s latest LP, a precious artefact of totemic modulations unearthed from winds and words ~ Chênes is a collection of imitated chants and sung songs that, while they speak of real species and elements, are above all imagined tales. Métayer’s ever-present and polymorphous violin adds a wandering touch to the pieces, while other instruments shape the environment and setting of these stories. Bells, bird calls, whistles, flutes, jaw harp, harmonica — all imitate more or less imaginary species. Each has its role and its life, down to the horsehair of the bow that rubs the strings of the violin to bring forth the sound.

NL: NU UIT:: Roxane Métayer ~ Chênes ~ KRAAK is trots om de nieuwste LP van de Franse multidisciplinaire artieste Roxane Métayer uit te brengen, een kostbaar artefact van totemische modulaties opgegraven uit winden en woorden ~ Chênes is een verzameling geïmiteerde gezangen en gezongen liederen die, hoewel ze spreken van echte soorten en elementen, bovenal ingebeelde verhalen zijn. De altijd aanwezige en polymorfe viool van Métayer geeft de stukken een zwervend tintje, terwijl andere instrumenten de omgeving en setting van deze verhalen vormgeven. Bellen, vogelgeluiden, fluiten, fluiten, kaakharp, harmonica - allemaal imiteren ze min of meer denkbeeldige soorten. Elk instrument heeft zijn rol en zijn leven, tot het paardenhaar van de strijkstok die over de snaren van de viool wrijft om het geluid voort te brengen.

No intro and very little spirit in this newsletter, the weight of the world and the too-real hardships subduing our spirits. But a couple of things of note:
- Always the Radio Roundup: new Kiosks and DNVGs up on our archive, with duo GG & DB reunited in two different radiowave capacities 👯♀️ and this week GG went solo on the Kiosk with a sckruuhk-heavy playlist, and Friday she’ll be joined on De Neus by Guillaume Kidula from schiev and the (remote) UH crew to talk more about our three-way collab and all its delicacies. That’ll be on Radio Panik TODAY 23/05 at the usual DNVG hours
